Computer set-up tips
- Hardware minimums: CPU 1 Ghz; 8Gb RAM. Mic and Camera required. Second Monitor Required.
- OS: Mac Sierra or later, Windows 7 or later, Linux (various).
- Broadband internet connection.
- Ethernet connection to a router preferred over Wifi.

1. Zoom
- Install the correct version for your OS. Don't plan to use the web version, as this does not have enough features.
- Download the "Home" "Installer" edition. Be careful not to install the portable or professional editions.
- Before installing, extract the installer zip folder to any location on your computer.
- Now run the installer and follow the prompts.

5. R (Latest Version for your OS)
6. RStudio
7. Integrated Genomics Viewer (IGV)
8. Download and install Loupe Browser
Connecting to Logrus
On Mac or Linux
- Open a Terminal. On Mac, this is located by default in the utilities folder, inside the application folder. On Linux, this varies by distribution.
- Find the email Ethan has sent you with your login name and password.
- enter this command into the terminal: ssh -p 44111 [email protected] (replace username with your username, which will be the first letter of your first name, plus up to 7 letters of your last name.
On Windows
Follow These steps, also shown in screenshots below:
- Open MobaXterm
- Click "Session" in upper left
- Click "SSH" in the window that pops up
- enter:
- Host: gateway.training.ncgr.org
- specify username:
- Port: 44111
- click OK
- Password:
- MobaXterm will then ask if you want it to save your password, and if so will have you select a Master password. This can be anything you want and is up to you.
- After successfully logging in, you should see a command prompt similar to:
- [eprice@logrus ~]$
- If so, your next step is to change your password to one Ethan doesn't know.
- Enter: passwd
- Enter current password_ethan_sent_you
- Enter your very own new password.
- this times out after just 10-20 seconds. if it does, try again!
- it wants you to make a hard password with a symbol, letter, number, 8+ characters, not based on a dictionary word.
- If you forget your password, email [email protected] for a reset.
